NDP workload is increasing finally, gone are the days where I slack in office with nothing to do. Sat in for quite a number of meetings, some of which are way above my level, i.e. focus group meeting wif Bde Comd and all PSOs, meeting with G1 and the other S1s, all 3 bar or 1 crab. I mean, what's a 2LT doing in these meetings. Though I must say it's helpful, helping me understand my job better. Met up with BT and Edmund in the middle of the week, funny thing is that we were supposed to meet at 6:30pm, at 6:25, I was the 1st to leave the office. Met Edmund at 715 whereas BT came at around 8. Puncuality has been thrown out of the window.
Yeay, finally remembered what I wanted to blog about earlier this week. During that meeting, BT and I were discussing about how difficult it was to score in the Singaporean Universities. We commented that the best and brightest normally aren't in Sg, most having gone overseas on scholarships, so if these people stay on in Sg to study, how would that affect the curve. Next, what constitues the best and the brightest in Sg? Initially I narrowed it to just overseas scholarship holders, saying that there were approximately 200 a year. But BT brought up a point that there are still quite a number who go on FMS to prestigious overseas unis, that number should be counted as well. I mean, if someone can enter Stanford/MIT/etc privately funded, he/she must be both rich and smart. So I lost that point to him. The next statement might be a little elitist, forgot how it happeend but we were talking about SAF scholarships. My personal take is that only SMS and SAFOS are worth signing for. The rest are too easy to obtain, then BT said thats because I'm already a scholar, therefore my qualifications are higher. In fact, discussing this issue with Mark right now over ICQ. IM is so useful. So I shall just leave that statement in, it's not defamatory or anything.
The latest news along the grapevine is the Jiahao getting sued by A*Star for posting defamatory remarks on his site. Mark pointed out his site to me quite some time back, it finally made the news this past few days. So now must be very careful what is written in blogs. Though Jean made some interesting comments yest while we were at Gotham Penthouse. You can't defame a corporation, you can only defame a person. In addition, Jiahao's blog was hosted on the UIUC server, so getting the suit thru might be a little more difficult.
Yesterday, we celebrated Jean's birthday, not that there was anything special, just went out for 1 drink and supper. Went to Gotham Penthouse at Clarke Quay, not very spectacular, but we found a cosy corner to chat. That's where the above information came about. Didn't get many more drinks because we were away from the bar. Didn't get her anything, oh wellz, what do you get for someone who has everything? It's an excuse I know, but the best I can come up with now.
Finally, Singapore is such a small place. During dinner last night, found out that the S73 Valerie Tan aunt knows my aunt. So was asked to get in touch with her sometime. See how lah....hehez....
