Monument Building

This was supposed to have been posted before I left on my overseas trip, but there was a party at Liz's house just before we left, hence I jus saved it as a draft.

As part of our course, we have been visiting various Ministries and chatting with the various PSes. Yesterday's session was one of the most best we have had so far. PS(E) was resondingto a question on what her greatest achievement in her years of public service was. She told us that shoud not aspire to be monument builders. Whilst we can come up with the greatest policies, nothing is ever static. Likewise, a seemingly wrong decision may turn out to be the correct one years down the road. In any case, the minister will always get the credit as well as the fall out for all the policies. Conclusion being that Civil Servants are there to work in the background and those who want fame and glory should not join for fear of being dissapointed.

This really struck a chord with me since it's part of my portfolio. The question is how to work it into the policies on attracting the right sort of talent into the Civil Service.
