Commission Interview

Had my commission interview earlier today, had TYS questions posed by the panel. Think I answered them quite well, no big spanners were thrown at me. The questions centered around the central topics of Uni life, Army life, my Uni feedback form and Current Affairs. I think it went well when the first statement Dr Andrew Chew said was: You're a 2LT in NS correct. The questions were asked only by Dr Andrew Chew as well as Mr Lim Chin Beng whom I just found out is chairman of SPH.
For Uni life, i was asked why I had so little ECAs in Uni as well as did it broaden my horizons. Other questions included where I had visited and the differences between the UK and US education systems.
The NS part focused on what I did for NDP and the lessons I learnt. This I think came about from my psychologist interview when I told him what I was doing in NS.
The Uni feedback form asked about my two lessons learnt and my chat with MAJ Fred helped loads as he was the inspirations for question on defence procurement. I was even asked some role-play on the dust-bin issue in MRT stations.
Lastly for current affairs the topics discussed were the aftereffects of Hurricane Katrina as well as the setting up of the new CSS. I think I led them on by stating in my cover letter I was into current affairs. They also asked me about Thinking Allowed which was mentioned in my cover letter.

The good thing is that I didn't have any big spanners thrown in like what Eesin had when he was asked about farm subsidies. I would have had problems answering that. The icing on the cake came when I was closing the door I heard Andrew remark that I was the best speaker thus far that day. At least I told them I wasn't interested in doing any engineering work and wasn't whacked for it.

Now to hope for a piece of good news on Saturday.
